Úsov Castle, Baroque castle and hunting museum in Úsov, Czech Republic
Úsov Castle is a baroque château set on a hilltop in the Moravian town of Úsov, in the Czech Republic. The whitewashed building has rectangular towers and now serves as a museum with collections spread across its historic rooms.
The site was first mentioned in written records in 1260 and was built on Gothic foundations before being transformed over the following centuries. The Liechtenstein family commissioned architect Domenico Martinelli to carry out a major baroque rebuilding between 1692 and 1699, giving the castle its current form.
The rooms inside hold hunting weapons and animal trophies brought back by the Liechtenstein family from trips to distant parts of the world. Walking through these spaces gives a sense of how the family lived and what they valued during their long ownership of the estate.
The castle is open to visitors from April through October, with guided tours available in more than one language. Checking ahead which language options are offered on a given day will help you plan your visit more easily.
One of the rooms preserves a medieval kitchen with original cooking pots and tools still in place, offering a rare look into how meals were prepared here long ago. Fully intact castle kitchens from that era are seldom found open to the public.
