Jemniště Chateau, Baroque chateau in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic
Jemniště Chateau is a baroque château located in the village of Jemniště in Central Bohemia, roughly an hour south of Prague. The complex includes a main residential building with period-furnished rooms and a landscaped park containing a chapel.
The chateau was built for the Sternberg family in the early 18th century and completed in 1725. A fire broke out shortly after and destroyed most of the building, leaving only the chapel standing on the grounds.
Jemniště still belongs to the Sternberg family and is lived in by their descendants, which gives it a feeling closer to a private home than a museum. When walking through the rooms, visitors often notice personal objects and a sense that everyday life continues within these walls.
The chateau can only be visited as part of a guided tour, so checking opening days before arriving is a good idea. On-site accommodations and a cafe are available for those who want to stay longer.
The Sala Terrena holds a handmade iron chandelier painted green and shaped with leaf motifs, an unusual decorative choice for a baroque interior. This room also opens directly onto the garden, creating a direct link between the indoor space and the grounds outside.
