Žleby Castle, Gothic castle in Žleby, Czech Republic
Žleby is a stone castle with extensive collections of weapons and period furniture spread across multiple wings. The wings connect around a central courtyard that forms the core of the structure.
The castle was built in 1289 by the Lichtenburk family as a Gothic fortress. Major reconstruction work between 1849 and 1868 transformed much of its appearance.
Inside, leather wallpapers, painted glass windows, and furniture pieces show how the aristocracy lived during the 1800s. The rooms display everyday objects and decorations that shaped the lifestyle of that era.
You can choose between two guided tours: one that lasts about an hour through the chapel and east wing, or a longer version that includes the tower. Both options let you pick a pace and focus that suits your interests.
The castle grounds hold a 130-hectare game park where rare white deer and hunting birds roam. These animals are a distinctive part of the property and visitors can spot them while exploring.
