Nový Šaumburk

Nový Šaumburk is a stone castle ruin that rises on elevated terrain near Podhradní Lhota, overlooking the surrounding region. The remains include walls, foundations, and sections that reveal the basic structure of a medieval defensive settlement.

The fortress was founded in 1307 as part of medieval expansion efforts in Bohemia. It served as a territorial stronghold during a period when such structures secured land and trade routes.

The name Šaumburk comes from a medieval noble family, and the stone ruins still show traces of their original fortress design. Visitors can see how the structure once served as a defensive stronghold integrated into the landscape.

Marked trails from Podhradní Lhota lead up to the ruins, guiding visitors through the landscape. Wearing sturdy shoes is recommended, as the walk crosses uneven terrain on the way up.

Excavations have uncovered remains of medieval defense systems that reveal how sophisticated the fortifications were. These archaeological findings offer insight into the building techniques and strategies of that era.
