Kostel svatého Šimona a Judy
Kostel svatého Šimona a Judy, Gothic church in Old Town, Prague, Czech Republic
The Church of Saints Simon and Jude is a Gothic structure in Prague's Old Town with pointed arches and a large organ inside. The interior features stone vaults and tall Gothic windows that create height and allow light to fill the space.
The building began in the 14th century as a hospital chapel and was later transformed into an independent church. In the late 17th century it received Baroque modifications that remain visible in its interior today.
The church functions today as a concert venue where classical music is performed regularly throughout the year. The stone interior with its vaults creates natural acoustics that musicians and audiences find appealing.
The building is located on Dušní Street and is easily reached on foot from the Old Town Square. Most visitors come for concerts, and program information can be found through the orchestra website associated with the venue.
A distinctive aspect is the connection to the adjoining St. Francis Hospital, where medical advances took place. In the 19th century this site was part of a larger complex that combined healing and cultural activities.
