Velká Javořina, Mountain summit in White Carpathians, Slovakia
Velká Javořina rises to 970 meters (3,182 ft) and marks the highest point of the White Carpathians, a range spanning between Slovakia and Czech territory. The summit can be reached by multiple hiking trails, with clear visibility across the surrounding mountain landscape from the top.
The mountain received protected status in 1909 when the Liechtenstein family implemented conservation measures to preserve the forest's natural development. This early environmental protection shaped the area's ecological character over the following decades.
The summit holds a commemorative stone honoring a local writer, serving as a traditional gathering point where people from Czech, Slovak, and Moravian regions have met for generations. The site maintains this cross-border character and remains meaningful to communities on both sides.
Hiking trails approach the summit from both Slovak and Czech sides, with vehicle access available only from the Slovak approach. Parking is available near local guesthouses and accommodations at the base.
The summit houses a telecommunications tower while protecting rare plant species, including the only population of an alpine thistle variety found nowhere else in the White Carpathians. This blend of modern infrastructure and botanical rarity makes the location scientifically important.
