Church of Holy Cross, Classical church in central Prague, Czech Republic

The Church of Holy Cross is a single-nave classical building with a vaulted semicircular apse, built 1816–1824 at the corner of Na Příkopě and Panská streets in Prague's New Town. Its single-axis facade has an entrance between two columns and two pilasters with Ionic capitals, the Latin inscription "AVE CRUX SPES UNICA" above the door, a golden cross on the attic, and a small bell turret holding a 1939 bell from Rudolf Perner's České Budějovice workshop.

The church was built in 1816–1824 to designs by Jiří Fischer, with Jindřich Hausknecht as builder, funded by the provincial government and a contribution from Emperor Francis I. It replaced two demolished town houses and served as the school church of the Piarist gymnasium in Panská Street, consecrated on 9 May 1824 by cathedral provost František Karoli. In 1938 it was handed to the Salesians under Štěpán Trochta, closed in 1950 and returned to them in 1968.

The church is dedicated to the Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Calasanz, patron of the Piarists, whose boys' gymnasium stood in Panská Street from 1758. Since 1938 it has been served by Salesians, who introduced the educational ideas of Saint John Bosco to Prague. A life-size photocopy of the Turin Shroud hangs on the north wall of the nave.

The church stands at the corner of Na Příkopě and Panská streets in Prague's New Town, not in Prague Castle. It is a Roman Catholic filial church with its own spiritual administration, served by the Salesians, so it is reached on foot from Můstek or Náměstí Republiky rather than through castle courtyards.

The church was built in 1824 as the school church of the Piarist gymnasium in Panská Street, because the existing school chapel of St Joseph Calasanz no longer had enough capacity. Two burgher houses were demolished to make room for it, and it was consecrated on 9 May 1824 by the cathedral provost František Karoli.
