Villa Bílek, Art Nouveau residence in Hradčany, Prague, Czech Republic
Villa Bílek is an Art Nouveau residence in Prague built with brick masonry and pillars shaped like bundled grain, designed with curved lines throughout. The structure follows a curved layout that references the shape of a scythe blade moving through a field.
František Bílek built this residence in 1911 as both his home and workshop, where he applied his architectural and artistic ideas to the design. The Gallery of the Capital City of Prague has managed the building since 1963 as an exhibition space.
The rooms display wooden sculptures and furniture that František Bílek created himself, showing how the artist shaped his own surroundings to match his vision. Walking through the spaces reveals the connection between his daily life and artistic practice.
The residence is located near Hradčanská metro station and can be visited with guided tours available. English-language information guides are provided at the entrance for international visitors to help them understand the spaces.
The building incorporates Egyptian architectural elements mixed with religious symbols that reflect Bílek's spiritual beliefs throughout the design. The custom-made interior furnishings demonstrate how his personal philosophy shaped every aspect of the space.
