Chanov housing estate

Chanov is a housing estate of concrete panel apartment buildings on the outskirts of Most, typical of Eastern European construction from the 1970s. The development forms a self-contained residential complex with essential facilities like schools and community services.

The estate was founded in the late 1970s to house Roma families displaced by the demolition of central Most due to brown coal mining. This forced relocation shaped the settlement from its beginning and determined its demographic character.

The residential area is primarily home to the Roma community, where family bonds and neighborhood connections form the basis of daily life. These social structures are visible in how residents share common spaces and interact throughout the estate.

The estate is located on the outskirts of Most and connects to the city center through regular bus routes. Basic facilities like schools are available on-site, and visitors should consider bringing a map or seeking local guidance to navigate the area.

The original development plans included comprehensive amenities such as a supermarket, kindergarten, health clinic, and police station, but many were never completed. This gap between the intended and actual facilities remains visible in the estate's infrastructure today.
