Janáček Theatre is an opera house on Rooseveltova Street in Brno, designed by architect Jan Víšek and built between 1961 and 1965. Its auditorium, originally seating 1,383 and now 1,063 after renovations, is arranged as a stepped amphitheatre with a ring of boxes. The stage has a revolving section with rear and two side stages.
The theatre was built between 1961 and 1965 to a design by architect Jan Víšek, chosen in a 1958 competition that followed seven architectural contests held from 1910 onward. It opened on 2 October 1965. A renovation begun in 2007 was completed in 2018 at a total cost of 700 million korunas.
The theatre is named after composer Leoš Janáček, whose nearby house faces the building's north façade. Besides opera and ballet of the National Theatre Brno, it hosts concerts of the Brno Philharmonic, which has long lacked a large hall of its own, and the Moravian Autumn festival.
