Šlechtova restaurace

Šlechtova restaurace is a historic restaurant in Stromovka Park housed in a building featuring early Baroque design elements combined with Neo-Gothic modifications from the 1850s. The structure stands on the shore of a former pond and displays a blend of architectural styles from different periods.

The building was constructed between 1689 and 1692 by imperial court master mason Jan Jakub Antonín Canevalle and initially served as a summer palace for Emperor Leopold I. It was later converted into a public restaurant that became known for decades as a popular gathering place.

The restaurant bears the name of Václav Šlechta, who managed the establishment from 1882 until World War II and turned it into a gathering place for the community. Visitors can still sense its role as a social meeting point where people come together and enjoy each other's company.

The site is located within Stromovka Park and is easily accessible on foot, though visitors should be aware that the building is undergoing extensive restoration work. The grounds are being gradually restored with plans to reopen as a restaurant with cafe, bakery, and event spaces.

The building connects to the Rudolf Tunnel, an underground water system that has supplied water to the Royal Game Reserve since the 16th century. This hidden network beneath the park is a fascinating record of water management planning from earlier times.
