Prague 7, Municipal district in Prague, Czech Republic
Prague 7 is a municipal district of Prague located on the left bank of the Vltava River, covering neighborhoods such as Holešovice and Letná. Each of these areas has its own character, mixing residential streets, green spaces, and repurposed industrial buildings.
The area that makes up Prague 7 was mostly farmland and river floodplain until the late 19th century, when industrial development brought factories and worker housing to Holešovice. Many of those factory buildings survived into the 20th century and were later converted for new uses.
Prague 7 is home to the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, housed in a former factory building where rotating exhibitions draw a wide range of visitors. The Letná neighborhood nearby has a reputation for independent cafés and small galleries that give the area a creative edge.
Prague 7 is easy to reach from the city center by metro on line C or by several tram routes that cross the district. Getting around within the area on foot or by bike works well, especially along the riverbank paths.
Holešovice was once an independent village and was only officially incorporated into Prague in 1884. The Prague Market, one of the largest covered market halls in Central Europe, still operates in the district and dates from the same era of rapid urban growth.
