Sharka Gord

Sharka Gord is a fortified settlement located on a strategically positioned hill in the districts of Liboc and Vokovice. The site contains remains of earthen ramparts and wooden structures that served defensive purposes during prehistoric times.

The site was first occupied during the Neolithic period, with archaeological evidence showing multiple layers of settlement from different prehistoric times. Occupation continued across successive cultures, demonstrating how this hilltop remained valuable to different groups over thousands of years.

This site served as a defensive stronghold for early Slavic communities and reveals how people organized their settlements for protection. The remains show evidence of continuous use across different periods, reflecting changing ways of life in the region.

The site can be accessed via marked hiking trails that lead across the hillfort. Good footwear is recommended since the terrain can be muddy or uneven, especially during wet weather.

What stands out is that this hilltop was continuously occupied by people from vastly different cultural backgrounds across many centuries without being abandoned. This uninterrupted use across such diverse cultural groups makes it an unusual example of settlement continuity in the region.
