The Baroque Theatre occupies the fifth courtyard of Český Krumlov Castle, connecting to the main building through a covered corridor from the Masquerade Hall.
Prince Johann Christian von Eggenberg commissioned the construction of an independent theatre building between 1680 and 1682, replacing an earlier performance space in the Deer Hall.
The theatre contains original stage machinery, decorations, costumes, props, and documentation including librettos, scripts, and sheet music from the 17th to 19th centuries.
Visitors explore the theatre through guided tours that showcase the stage mechanisms, orchestra pit, and historical stage sets while maintaining preservation protocols.
The stage machinery system allows complete scenery changes within twelve seconds using wooden mechanisms designed by Viennese carpenter Lorenz Makh in the 1760s.
