Suchý vrch, Mountain summit in Orlické Mountains, Czech Republic
Suchý vrch is a double-peaked mountain in the Orlické Mountains standing at roughly 1000 meters in elevation. A mountain hut with an observation tower built in 1928 occupies the summit area and offers views across the surrounding landscape.
The mountain formed during Precambrian geological processes and later became a strategically important border defense site in the 1930s. A presidential visit in 1937 highlighted its role during a period of rising tensions in the region.
The summit area features Kramářova chata, a mountain hut designed by architect Jaroslav Stejskal in 1928, which includes a 28-meter concrete watchtower.
You can climb to the observation platform via stairs and take in the far-reaching views from the top. The mountain hut provides a place to rest and helps orient visitors making their way to the summit.
Water flows away from beneath the mountain toward two different seas, meaning rainfall here can eventually reach completely separate bodies of water. This makes the location an important point on the European water divide.
