Arboretum Sofronka

Arboretum Sofronka is a research facility spanning 22 hectares in Bolevec with extensive collections of pine and other tree species. The grounds feature two ponds and a network of forest paths that connect different sections of the property.

Karel Kanak founded the facility in 1956 as part of a research institute dedicated to forestry and game management, focusing on pine tree breeding. It was later transformed into a public educational center open to visitors.

The site now functions as an educational hub where visitors discover the role of tree cultivation and forest management. Groups and individuals use the grounds to learn about different plant species and their importance in natural systems.

Access is typically available on weekdays, and specialized tours are offered on select dates that should be confirmed in advance. Proper footwear is advisable since forest paths vary in surface condition and can be slippery depending on weather.

The collection holds around 68 pine species from across the globe, representing one of the largest pine collections on the Eurasian continent. This extensive assembly makes it a valuable destination for anyone interested in tree diversity.
