Smrk, Observation tower in Lázně Libverda, Czech Republic.
Smrk is an observation tower in the Jizera Mountains region, constructed from metal and positioned at a high elevation above the spa town of Lázně Libverda. The structure provides two observation platforms where visitors can view the surrounding mountain landscape.
A wooden tower originally stood at this location starting in 1892 and withstood mountain conditions for many years. The current metal structure eventually replaced the older tower, providing visitors with a more modern viewing experience.
The memorial stone near the tower commemorates poet Theodor Körner, who climbed the mountain during the Napoleonic Wars in 1809.
The observation platforms are accessible year-round from Lázně Libverda through marked hiking trails that are well-maintained. Wearing proper footwear is recommended as trail conditions vary depending on the season and weather.
On clear days, visitors can see many kilometers from the viewing gallery and spot several well-known mountain peaks in the distance. This extended view offers a chance to understand the geography of the surrounding region.
