Štěpánka, Stone observation tower in Příchovice, Czech Republic
Stepanka is a 24-meter-high cylindrical stone tower situated at 958 meters elevation within Giant Mountains National Park. The structure features an observation platform from which visitors can survey the surrounding mountain ranges.
Construction began in 1847 after a visit by Archduke Stephan, but the project remained incomplete until a mountain association finished it in 1892. This completion made the tower a functional observation point for mountain hikers.
The tower bears the name of Archduke Stephan, reflecting its connection to Habsburg history and regional heritage. Visitors can observe how this site draws those interested in understanding mountain observation traditions from the 19th century.
The tower is most accessible during dry conditions and offers open views across multiple mountain ranges from the platform at the top. Visitors should prepare for the climb and allow time for rest stops when weather conditions are favorable.
On clear days, visitors can spot the Elbe Sandstone Rocks from the platform even though they lie far beyond the immediate mountain area. This makes the location special for those seeking extended views that stretch well beyond the surrounding peaks.
