Svatojánský most, Stone bridge in Litovel, Czech Republic

Svatojánský most is a stone bridge over the Morava River in Litovel, completed around 1592. It rests on five pillars joined by six arches and measures 57 metres in length. Halfway across, on the west side, stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk by Jan Sturmer.

Built in 1592, this was the first stone bridge in Moravia and marked a major step forward in regional construction methods. It ranks among the oldest surviving bridges in the country and reflects the technical advances of that era.

The bridge carries Vítězná street over the Morava and is named for the statue of St. John of Nepomuk by Jan Sturmer, placed halfway across on the west side. Since the 1997 floods the roadway has been narrowed to a single lane, with the rest given over to pedestrians.

The bridge is easy to reach and serves as a natural starting point for walks along the Morava riverbank. The area is well-suited for pedestrians and offers straightforward access to surrounding paths and rest spots.

The bridge is the third-oldest surviving stone bridge in the Czech Republic, after Charles Bridge in Prague and the Stone Bridge in Písek, and the oldest in Moravia. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk halfway across is by Jan Sturmer.
