Church of Saint Mark, church in Litovel
Church of Saint Mark is a church building in Litovel with a rectangular layout oriented from southeast to northwest. It has a presbytery with a three-sided end, side chapels, and a square tower positioned to the southwest.
The church was first recorded in writing in 1342 and originates from the 14th century. It was rebuilt between 1529 and 1532 in Renaissance style and later restored in 1675 in Baroque style after war damage.
The church was originally linked to a nearby monastery in Staré Brno, which cared for it for many years. This connection shaped the town's religious life across centuries.
The church stands on Náměstí Svobody, the central square of town, and is easily reached on foot. It opens occasionally for visitors, particularly during religious holidays and local festivals.
The Marian Chapel was built around 1900 and holds four large paintings by Jindřich Taschner depicting key moments in Mary's life. These artworks contain details that visitors often overlook due to their emotional depth.
