Baba, Natural monument and protected area in Dejvice, Czech Republic.
Baba is a natural monument situated on a hilltop overlooking the Vltava River near Prague and stands at approximately 259 meters in elevation. The site contains the remains of a 17th-century winepress along with castle ruins that were artificially created in later times.
Archaeological excavations in the 1970s revealed traces of early human settlement from the Stone Age on this hilltop. Later in medieval times the area was used for vineyard cultivation before artificial castle ruins were added in 1858.
This location once served as a center for wine cultivation in the region, and the remains show how people worked here for generations. The ruins tell the story of when the area was known for its grape harvest and visitors can picture how daily life unfolded in this place.
The area is accessible via the red-marked walking route numbered 0043 which runs through a larger hiking region. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and expect uneven ground, especially in wet weather conditions.
Since 2006 the old stonework has been illuminated at night creating a completely different visual experience than during daytime hours. The lighting emphasizes the shape of the historic winepress and makes the artificial castle ruins visible in the darkness.
