Zkamenělý zámek, Natural monument in Česká Cikánka, Czech Republic.
Zkamenělý zámek is a natural rock formation in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands composed of granite outcrops and migmatite structures. The site sits at about 765 meters elevation and displays multiple prominent peaks that create its distinctive outline.
The site gained protected status as a natural monument in 1977 within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Evidence of early human settlement appears in the form of ancient fortification trenches located above the rock formations.
Local residents named these rocks Zkamenělý zámek because their outline resembles a petrified castle with prominent tower shapes. Visitors can spot this resemblance themselves when viewing the formation from different angles around the site.
The location is accessible via marked hiking trails maintained by the Czech Tourist Club and open year-round. Winter months are popular for rock climbing activities, though proper equipment and caution are necessary for safety.
A natural window opening cuts through the main rock tower, creating a distinctive hole that changes appearance depending on light conditions. This geological feature makes the location particularly striking for photographers and nature observers.
