Mokřiny u Vomáčků, Nature reserve in Zliv, Czech Republic
Mokřiny u Vomáčků is a nature reserve near Zliv comprising wetlands and natural meadows spread across an extensive area. The northern sections feature thick reed beds, while the southern portions display alternating wet grasslands separated by two parallel tree lines.
The area maintained its original vegetation until the 1960s, when stream regulation and drainage modifications altered the water balance. These engineering changes continue to influence the relationship between water and land today.
The reserve reflects traditional South Bohemian land management, with generations of careful water control and grassland maintenance shaping what visitors see today. These practices remain visible in how the landscape is structured and used.
Marked paths allow visitors to walk through both zones and see how the landscapes differ from one section to another. Spring and summer offer the best conditions for viewing wildlife and observing the changing water levels.
The site is home to 24 dragonfly species that dart and hunt over the water. Reed warblers also nest here by building their homes directly on reed stalks, something visitors can observe up close.
