Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary

The Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary is a religious structure showing Romanesque foundations mixed with Gothic details and topped with a striking Neo-Romanesque tower. The building features thick stone walls and characteristic pointed-arch windows that reflect its long architectural development.

The original structure dates back to the first half of the 12th century, with initial building beginning around 1125. Over time, the church was expanded and modified with Gothic elements.

The church is known locally for its role as a spiritual meeting place that has served the village community for centuries. People gather here during important religious celebrations and seasonal events throughout the year.

The church sits in the center of the village of Zahájí and is easily reached on foot. Visitors should remember this is an active place of worship and plan their visit respectfully.

A lightning strike once destroyed the original Romanesque tower, after which a new Neo-Romanesque one was built between 1876 and 1880. This reconstruction shows how the community rebuilt their church after damage.
