Obory u Hluboké, Game reserve near Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czech Republic.
Obory u Hluboké is a large protected reserve divided into two sections along the Vltava River: the older Stará obora and the newer Poněšická obora. The land consists of forests, meadows, and water areas that provide habitat for various animal species.
The older section began in the 15th century, while the second section was founded during the 16th century. Under the Schwarzenberg family, the reserve took on its modern form during the 19th century.
The land holds ancient burial mounds and traces of a former fortified settlement that speak to long human habitation. These relics show how people have valued this location across many centuries.
The reserve is best explored by bicycle or on foot, with marked paths connecting through both sections. The best times to visit are spring and autumn when weather is pleasant and wildlife is more active.
The Poněšická obora became known for raising deer brought from many regions across Europe. This variety of origins made the breeding effort notable and drew visitors interested in observing these animals.
