Zoo Hluboka, Animal park in Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czech Republic
Zoo Hluboka spreads along Munický pond with various animal enclosures and a historic hunting lodge on the grounds. The grounds combine open pasture areas with thematically organized sections for different animal species.
Adolf Schwarzenberg founded this zoological garden in 1939 near the Ohrada hunting lodge. After World War II, the state took over management and developed it into its present form.
The grounds reflect a traditional connection between hunting lodge and animal park that still shapes its character today. Visitors sense this historical blend while walking between enclosures and the historic building.
The grounds are walkable with paths that accommodate different paces, with shaded spots by trees along the way. Comfortable shoes are advisable since the terrain is somewhat hilly and a full tour takes considerable time.
Monkeys live in semi-open areas on the grounds and roam freely while observing visitors up close. Additionally, children can interact with dwarf goats in a special enclosure, something rarely offered in European zoos.
