Singing Fountain, Musical fountain in Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic
The Singing Fountain is a circular stone structure 18 meters across with a central jet reaching 6 meters high, surrounded by 12 stone flower sculptures. The open design creates a stage where water moves in coordinated patterns during performances.
Built between 1982 and 1986 during the reconstruction of Maxim Gorky's promenade, the fountain was designed by architect Pavel Mikšík. It emerged as part of a broader project that transformed the spa area during that period.
The fountain plays compositions by famous composers such as Chopin, Mozart, and Dvořák throughout the day as the water dances. This connection between water and classical music makes it a gathering place where visitors naturally stop to listen and watch.
Performances happen every odd hour from 7 AM to 10 PM daily. The evening shows at 9 PM and 10 PM feature colored lighting that adds another layer to the water display.
The fountain operates with 250 water jets and 330 nozzles arranged in tubular rings, all controlled by computer. This precision engineering allows the water patterns to synchronize so smoothly with the music that they feel like a single artistic performance.
