Maštale

Maštale is a nature reserve near Bor u Skutče featuring multiple sandstone rock formations, deep valleys, and dense forest cover throughout the eastern Bohemian landscape. The terrain is divided into distinct sections by cliff faces and wooded slopes of varying heights that shape the overall character of the area.

The area became a protected reserve in January 1989 following conservation efforts that started in 1988. This protection was established to safeguard the geological formations and natural ecosystems from damage.

The rock formations of Toulovcovy and Městské Maštale shape how people see and connect with this part of Bohemia as natural landmarks of their region.

You can reach the reserve from a parking area in Bor u Skutče by following a marked green trail that loops through the site. Wear sturdy shoes since the path crosses steep sections and occasionally muddy areas.

The Dudychova cave system within the reserve formed through natural sandstone erosion and displays unusual pseudo-karst formations not found in typical limestone caves. These underground structures reveal a distinct geological process that shaped this specific landscape.
