Toulovcovy maštale, Nature reserve in Eastern Bohemia, Czech Republic
Toulovcovy Mastale is a nature reserve featuring sandstone rock formations that create narrow gorges, caves, and hidden passages throughout the landscape. The area spans multiple municipalities between Chrudim and Svitavy districts, with marked trails and cycling routes connecting different sections.
The area received protected status in 1993 to preserve its geological features across nine cadastral territories. This protection recognized the scientific and landscape value of the sandstone formations.
The name comes from an old legend about chambers and hideaways scattered across the landscape. Local people and visitors refer to rock formations by playful names like Kitchen and Cellar when exploring the trails.
The reserve is well-organized with marked hiking paths and cycling routes that guide visitors safely through the terrain. Wearing sturdy footwear is recommended, as trails pass through gorges and across rocky sections.
A large sandstone sculpture of a rabbit stands on a rock tower near Zderaz village, marking a local tale of escape and adventure. This carved figure has become a favorite landmark that many visitors seek out.
