Belvedere

The Belvedere is an Empire-style hunting lodge situated on elevated ground within the expansive Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. The building displays symmetrical facades and features several viewing platforms that offer views across the surrounding countryside.

Joseph Hardtmuth designed this Empire-style structure in the early 1800s as part of the Liechtenstein family's major architectural campaign in South Moravia. The lodge formed part of a series of buildings developed over decades that gradually shaped the entire cultural landscape.

This hunting lodge served as a retreat for aristocratic hunting expeditions, reflecting the leisure interests of the ruling family. Its isolated location on high ground demonstrates how nobility sought both practical sporting venues and private getaway spaces.

The lodge is accessible via marked hiking trails from Lednice Castle and opens seasonally from April through October. The hilltop location makes it a rewarding walking destination, especially on days with clear visibility across the surrounding area.

The name Belvedere comes from the Italian term for beautiful view, which perfectly reflects the building's main purpose. The lodge was intentionally designed as a vantage point to survey the landscape, combining hunting function with scenic enjoyment.
