Cedr Na Balkáně, Atlas cedar in Vysočany, Prague, Czech Republic

Cedr Na Balkáně is an Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) with a forked trunk, standing on the grounds of the TJ Spoje tennis club at Na Balkáně 990/21a in Vysočany, Prague 3. In 2009 it measured 20 m tall, with a trunk circumference of 253 cm, a crown 17 m high and 16 m wide; by 2013 the trunk had reached 265 cm.

The tree arrived as a young sapling from the Netherlands, transported through efforts of the Dendrological Society founded in Vienna during 1908. This organization worked to introduce rare tree species to the region in the early 1900s.

The cedar is the only protected tree in Prague 3, and its species is the less common Atlas cedar; the Lebanon cedar is the usual one in the region. It was brought as a seedling from the Netherlands through the Dendrological Society, founded in Vienna in 1908 to promote garden art and the study of woody plants in Austria-Hungary.

The tree stands about 550 metres from the Chmelnice public transport stop. It grows inside the grounds of the TJ Spoje tennis club at Na Balkáně 990/21a, so access is through an active sports facility and visitors should keep to the edges of the courts.

The tree is a double-trunked Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica), a species native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria, while the more common Lebanon cedar comes from the Middle East. It was brought as a seedling from the Netherlands through the Dendrological Society, founded in Vienna in 1908.
