Hadí vrch, Nature reserve in Staré Město pod Landštejnem, Czech Republic
Hadí vrch is a nature reserve at an elevation of 489 meters (1,604 feet) with granite formations and acidic soil that spans about 13 hectares of protected land. The rocky structure shapes the plant life and creates varied habitats within this small area.
The reserve was established as a protected area in 1988 by the district authorities of Jindřichův Hradec. This official recognition came after the natural value of this place was understood.
The landscape shows traces of former boulder pastures that reveal how people farmed this land before World War II. These open areas continue to shape how the place looks today.
Visitors can explore the reserve through public paths that start from the nearby village of Staré Město pod Landštejnem. The area is relatively small and compact, making it suitable for shorter walks.
This site is the only habitat in the entire Czech Republic for the heath plume moth, a rare butterfly species found nowhere else in the country. The reserve also shelters mountain beetles and woodland birds that make this highland place ecologically distinctive.
