Divadlo Ponec

Divadlo Ponec is a dance theatre located in Žižkov housed in a former cinema that has been converted to serve the art form. The venue presents performances year-round featuring choreographers and dancers from the Czech Republic and abroad, exploring contemporary movement in multiple styles.

The building began as a neighborhood cinema before being converted into a dedicated dance venue. This transformation made it the first space in Prague specifically designed to serve contemporary dance as its primary focus.

The venue hosts the Czech Dance Platform festival, where dancers and choreographers from around the country present new creations and exchange ideas. Visitors experience the local and international contemporary dance scene through performances that reflect both traditional and experimental approaches.

The venue is located at Husitská 24a in Prague 3 and can be reached easily by public transport. It is helpful to arrive a bit early, as the box office opens about an hour before each show for last-minute ticket purchases and seat reservations.

The theatre operates a Children's Studio and Movement Workshop for older adults, integrating dance education across different life stages. This approach brings contemporary dance to people of varying ages and creates learning opportunities that go beyond typical performance-focused venues.
