Military History Institute in Prague

The Military History Institute in Prague is a research institution with three museum locations in different places around the city. Each location displays different aspects of military history, from aircraft to technical equipment and historical documents.

The institute was founded in 1919 shortly after Czechoslovakia came into being as a new state. It grew through the merging of different collections in the following years.

The institute preserves memories of how Czech armed forces developed over many decades through its collections. The displays show how military equipment and uniforms changed as time passed.

The three locations are spread across different places in and around Prague, so visiting all three requires planning. It makes sense to spend time at each location depending on which aspects of military history interest you.

Beneath the church of Saints Cyril and Methodius are rooms where people had to hide after a significant historical event. This hidden history underground makes the place quite special.
