Bikeway under the Vítkov hill
The bikeway under Vítkov hill is a former railway line converted into a cycling path since 2010 and stretches about 2 kilometers. The route runs parallel to Husitská Street, passes through a tunnel beneath the hill, and connects different parts of the Žižkov neighborhood with pedestrian and cycling areas.
The railway line was built in the late 1800s to carry trains to and from the city. After train service stopped in 2008, the tracks were removed and the area was officially opened as a cycling path in 2010.
The route reminds visitors of the area's railway heritage and serves the neighborhood as a gathering place. Residents and guests value how this former track has become a lively meeting point where people of different ages come together.
The path is accessible for cyclists, pedestrians, and skaters and offers bike racks, drinking fountains, and benches. Visitors should note that the tunnel under the hill is dark, so bringing a light is helpful for evening visits.
The tunnel beneath the hill stretches about 100 meters and offers cyclists a quick, slightly adventurous route sometimes decorated with graffiti. The train-themed playground has an unusual design that sparks children's imagination rather than following typical playground layouts.
