Dům U Zlatého rohu

Dům U Zlatého rohu is a cultural monument in Prague's Old Town that combines Baroque, Neoclassical, and Renaissance elements in a three-story structure positioned near the Old Town Hall. The building displays a thoughtful blend of different architectural layers that developed across generations.

The building was erected in the early 15th century on Gothic foundations and underwent major restructuring in 1430 when portions of an adjacent house were integrated into it. This merger of different structures fundamentally shaped the building's present-day appearance.

The outer walls display intricate sgraffito decorations featuring biblical scenes and ancient Greek motifs that blend artistic traditions from different eras. These ornamental details shape the building's appearance and reflect the artistic appreciation of its former occupants.

The house sits between Old Town Square and Malé náměstí square and is easily accessible on foot while exploring the Old Town. It remains in active use and is viewable from the exterior, making it ideal for observation during a stroll through the historic area.

Franz Kafka and his family resided in this building from 1889 to 1896, adding a notable connection to Prague's literary history. Many visitors overlook this connection, though it adds a fascinating layer to the location's historical importance.
