Čejchanův Hrádek

Čejchanův Hrádek is a Gothic castle ruin perched on a rocky outcrop above the Sázava River. The remains display medieval fortification features including partial stone walls and gate structures built into the hillside.

The castle was founded in the late 13th century by the Lords of Dubá as a regional military stronghold. Royal forces captured and destroyed it in the early 15th century, ending its use as a functioning fortress.

The site takes its name from a knight documented in medieval records who once ruled from this location. Visitors can see how military strongholds were built to control the surrounding territory during the Middle Ages.

The site is accessible via marked hiking trails from the nearby town of Chocerady and requires sturdy footwear due to uneven terrain. Nearby villages offer lodging and basic services for visitors exploring the area.

The castle was once occupied by a knight named Jan Zoul who used it as a base for robbery operations in the region before royal forces took control. This unusual past reveals how medieval fortresses sometimes served not just as defenses but as hideouts for criminals.
