Komorní Hrádek Castle

Komorní Hrádek Castle sits on the left bank of the Sázava River and combines medieval foundations with Renaissance redesign. The structure includes multiple courtyards, a central square tower, and numerous rooms holding historical features.

Originally called Veselé, the castle was founded in 1401 by Racek Kobyla of Dvorce and authorized by King Wenceslas IV in 1412. Over centuries, it underwent multiple reconstructions that layered Renaissance features over its medieval core.

The castle displays Renaissance wall paintings and stucco ceilings across multiple rooms that reflect different artistic periods. Visitors can observe how interiors were decorated and shaped over centuries.

The castle is managed by the Defense Ministry and opens to visitors mainly during European Heritage Days in September with guided tours. Planning a visit around this annual event is the best way to experience the interior.

The interiors contain a substantial collection of hunting trophies gathered by Miloš Fišer and displayed throughout the rooms since 2009. This collection reflects the hunting passion of a previous owner and shapes how the rooms feel today.
