Church of Saint Wenceslaus, church in Litoměřice District of Ústí Nad Labem region
The Church of Saint Wenceslaus is a small baroque building with a distinctive square shape and rounded corners, constructed between 1714 and 1716. Inside, it features an elaborate iconostasis from 2008, painted images of saints beneath the vaulted ceiling, and an altar displaying icons of the Virgin Mary and Saint Martin.
A church has stood on this site since 1363, though it was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. The current building was constructed between 1714 and 1716 as a thanksgiving for the end of a severe plague and was dedicated on September 28, 1716, the feast day of Saint Wenceslaus.
The church takes its name from Saint Wenceslaus, the patron saint of Bohemia, whose feast day falls on September 28. Today it serves as a place for Orthodox worship and houses an iconostasis decorated with religious images that reflects the spiritual life of the local community.
The church is located near Václavské náměstí and is easy to find. Visitors should keep in mind that it is an active place of worship, so quiet behavior and respectful conduct are expected.
Since 2011, the church has had an internet camera that allows people from around the world to watch Orthodox services online. This technological connection enables the small building to reach believers far beyond its physical walls.
