Kościół Świętej Rodziny w Pradze, Religious building in Řepy, Czech Republic

The Church of the Holy Family forms the western part of the four-winged, two-storey former orphanage complex of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo in Řepy, built by Jan Ripota in 1858–1862. Its exterior mixes Gothicizing forms with early Italian Renaissance elements; the south facade has three axes and a porch entrance, and the west side has large windows separated by pilasters with Gothicizing buttresses. The church bell turret, removed in the 20th century, was restored in the renovation completed in 2012.

The Congregation of the Merciful Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo bought the Taicman farm in 1858, and builder Jan Ripota led construction of the four-winged convent from 1859. The Church of the Holy Family was consecrated on 18 December 1861. In 1950 the sisters were expelled and the church was used as a garage and store; it was returned in 1996 and restored by 2012.

The church takes its dedication from the Holy Family, the main patron of the Borromean Sisters. Its walls and vaults carry Beuronian murals painted in 1933–1934 by the Emmaus Benedictines Antonín Vrbík and Konrád Lukáš, using the al secco technique on dry plaster. Look for the palms in the presbytery and the figures of St John the Baptist and St Michael the Archangel revealed in the vault.

The church stands in the western part of the former orphanage complex, its southern facade with the entrance porch facing the street; the eastern facade looks onto the central courtyard. The complex lies in Prague-Řepy and is a cultural monument; the church serves as a filial church of the Řepy parish of St Martin.

The church was deconsecrated in 1950 and used as a photographic darkroom in the presbytery, a warehouse, and a garage, with a car repair workshop in the nave. The convent housed the Research Institute of Agricultural Technology from 1958. The church tower was demolished and only rebuilt during the restoration completed in 2012.
