Dominican yard in Braník

The Dominican yard is a baroque building from the late 1600s with detailed stucco decorations and multiple halls designed for ceremonial use. The interior spaces feature ornate architectural details characteristic of the period and region.

The building was transformed in the second half of the 1600s under the direction of Italian architect Carlo Lurago, who designed it as a religious and community center. This reconstruction established it as an important site for Dominican activities across the region.

The main hall displays fifty paintings arranged in cycles, with a central vault showing the biblical Wedding at Cana. This painted decoration fills the space with religious narratives that frame the purpose of the building.

The building has been closed to visitors since 2019 and is undergoing restoration work, making it currently inaccessible from the outside. Check local information before planning a visit, as reopening dates remain uncertain.

The interior halls were used in 1984 as filming locations for director Miloš Forman's film Amadeus, bringing international attention to the site. This connection to a famous film introduced the building to audiences worldwide.
