Dalibor, Observation tower at Kalvárie, Zaječí, Czech Republic

Dalibor is an observation tower built on a hilltop near Zaječí in South Moravia. It offers views across the vineyard-covered landscape and the village below.

The brick tower was built in 2007 beside a chapel on the Kalvárie hill, financed entirely by Mr. Žďárský, owner of the U Kapličky winery, at a cost of about 500,000 CZK. It was officially opened to the public in May 2012.

The tower stands beside a chapel from 2007 and was financed by Mr. Žďárský, owner of the "U Kapličky" winery, which sits below on the road from Zaječí. Visitors can combine the climb with a visit to the winery. The name Dalibor refers to the tower itself, not to the hill, which is called Kalvárie.

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads to the tower, or you can take the small road from Zaječí to the U Kapličky winery. The nearest railway station is Zaječí, about 3.5 km away. The tower is open all year and free to enter.

The tower stands beside a chapel built in the same year, 2007, and both were paid for by Mr. Žďárský, owner of the "U Kapličky" winery, at a cost of about 500,000 CZK. The viewing platform sits 8 m up, reached by 30 fairly steep rungs of a steel ladder fixed to the tower's outer wall.
