DKV Brno-Maloměřice, Rail depot in Maloměřice district, Brno, Czech Republic
The DKV Brno-Maloměřice is a rail depot in the Maloměřice district with two large halls for servicing and maintaining diesel and electric locomotives. A transfer table between the halls allows vehicles to move efficiently from one work area to the other.
The original Brno rail facility began construction in the early 1850s at the lower railway station, starting with wooden structures and later adding a turntable and fuel storage. These expansions gradually transformed the site into a complete working depot for the growing railway network.
Railway workers in the area refer to this facility by the informal name Majlont, a colloquial term that reflects their connection to the neighborhood and shows up regularly in everyday workplace talk.
The facility includes a modern washing station built in 2006 that can be programmed for different locomotive types to suit various cleaning needs. An electronic rail scale is available for accurate measurements and supports maintenance operations.
The depot employs over two thousand staff members, with around nine hundred of them serving as train drivers, making it one of the major maintenance hubs in the Moravian region. This scale reflects how integral rail transport remains to the area's infrastructure.
