Velvarská brána, Medieval city gate and museum in Slaný, Czech Republic
The Velvarská Gate stands 38 meters tall with a passage measuring 8 meters in length and 4.7 meters in both width and height.
During the reign of George of Poděbrady in 1453, the gate received renovations and acquired the designation 'New Gate' with Latin inscriptions on its inner walls.
The gate features carved guild emblems and the municipal coat of arms above its northern passage, demonstrating the medieval craftsmanship and civic pride.
The gate museum opens from May 1 to October 31, requiring advance reservations with guides for tours of the fortification and settlement development exhibits.
A copper rooster, symbolizing vigilance, sits atop the gate's spire, replicating the original 1612 weathervane during the 1868 restoration.
