Vesecký kopec, Natural monument in Veská, Czech Republic
Vesecký kopec is a sand dune and protected natural monument located in the East Bohemian region near Pardubice. The site covers less than a hectare and rises noticeably from the surrounding flat landscape.
The dune formed during the Quaternary period when wind erosion carried sand from the Elbe River terraces. This geological process created the distinctive landform visitors see today.
Scientists have documented 108 species of carabid beetles within this protected area, making it a critical site for biodiversity research.
The site is accessible via cycling route 4193 that passes near Veská and connects to surrounding areas. The terrain is easy to navigate on foot and visiting is straightforward.
The site hosts more than 100 beetle species, including some found nowhere else in the region. This surprising biodiversity makes it a significant area for studying insect life.
