R-S 74 Na holém casemate, Infantry casemate in Panské Pole, Czech Republic
The R-S 74 Na holém casemate is an isolated infantry position built from reinforced concrete in the Orlické hory mountains. Its thick walls were designed specifically for military defense and strategic protection of the border area.
This fortification was built in just nine days during December 1937 as part of Czechoslovakia's border defense system. The rapid construction reflected the urgent military concerns of that period.
The site earned recognition as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1994, preserving military architecture from the pre-war period. Visitors can see how defensive structures were designed and built during this era.
The site is accessible via the Czechia North Trail hiking network using coordinates 50.186403, 16.509072 to locate the position. Visitors should prepare for mountain terrain and bring appropriate hiking gear.
Two armoured bells still protrude from the roof, each weighing 39.7 tonnes with 30 cm of steel, fitted with three firing and observation slits and a periscope opening. The site also served as an artillery observation post for the Hanička fortress group about 1.5 km to the north.
