Kostel Krista Krále

Kostel Krista Krále is a functionalist church building in Vysocany featuring a single nave with a flat ceiling and rectangular chancel. A modest tower rises above the roof, defining the external appearance of this modernist structure.

The church began with a cornerstone ceremony in October 1929 and was consecrated by Bishop Antonín Podlaha in September 1930. It emerged during a period when functionalist architecture shaped Czech building culture.

The interior displays sculptures by Damián Pešan, including Christ the King and figures of Saints Peter, Paul, Agnes, John of Nepomuk, and Ludmila.

The building stands at Kolbenova 658/14 in Prague 9 and remains accessible during its opening hours. Visitors should know that this functions primarily as an active place of worship.

The building was designated as a 'sanctuary' rather than a church due to local council requirements, marking an unusual departure from traditional naming conventions. This formal distinction gave the worship space a particular legal and administrative status.
