Bystřina

Bystřina is a nature reserve with forests, meadows, and flowing streams spread across protected land. The area sits between 540 and 625 meters in elevation and provides habitat for sensitive freshwater species.

The reserve was established in 1992 to protect threatened river mussels and other rare species. This decision was part of broader efforts to safeguard freshwater ecosystems across Central Europe.

The reserve draws nature enthusiasts who come to observe uncommon stream-dwelling species in their environment. Visitors can experience how rivers move naturally and what plants and animals thrive in these freshwater ecosystems.

The area can be explored on foot using marked trails, with a typical walk taking about two hours. Visitors reach the reserve by train or bus and should wear suitable footwear for damp and uneven ground.

The area holds one of the last populations of freshwater pearl mussels in Central Europe. This rare species needs clean, cold water and serves as a reliable indicator of ecosystem health.
