Janova skála, Mountain summit in Krkonoše Mountains, Czech Republic.
Janova skála (German: Johannes felsen) is a mountain in the Krkonoše range on the southeastern ridge of Čertova hora, 2 km south-southeast of Harrachov. A massive rock sits on the summit, named after Count Johann von Harrach. Spruce forest covers the slope and overgrows the summit rock, limiting the views that were once fine.
The summit's rock is named after Count Johann von Harrach, from the Harrach family long associated with nearby Harrachov. The Czech name Janova skála corresponds to the German Johannesfelsen, both meaning Johann's rock. About 300 m northwest lies a second, one-metre-higher top, designated Janova skála – SZ vrchol (1002 m) by the Tisícovky Čech, Moravy a Slezska project.
The summit rock bears the name of Count Johann von Harrach, linking the peak to the Harrach family, owners of the Harrachov estate. The German name Johannesfelsen records the same dedication. About 300 m northwest, a second top one metre higher is listed by the Tisícovky Čech, Moravy a Slezska project as Janova skála – SZ vrchol (1002 m).
Janova skála is reached by a short detour from the blue marked trail between Čertova hora and Studenov; a cycle path from Harrachov and a marked ski route run alongside it. The secondary northwest summit, one metre higher at 1002 m, has no path but lies 60 m southwest of the blue trail in zone III of KRNAP.
About 300 m northwest of the main summit lies a second, one-metre-higher top at 1002 m, named Janova skála – SZ vrchol by the authors of the Tisícovky Čech, Moravy a Slezska project. No path leads to it, but it lies in zone III of KRNAP, so it can be reached off-trail, best from the blue-marked route about 60 m to the northeast.
