Věznice Rapotice, Gefängnis in Tschechien
Rapotice Prison is a modern correctional facility for men located near Lesní Jakubov, situated on a large forested property of approximately 100 hectares. The facility comprises several buildings including cell blocks, workshops, and sports facilities designed according to contemporary security standards.
The site originally served as a rocket forces military base for the Czechoslovak Army and was used for military purposes from 1989 to 2003. In 2005, the Ministry of Justice took over the property from the Ministry of Defence and converted it into a penal facility, which has housed inmates since September 2006.
The facility has visitor rooms with tables and limited visiting hours that require advance registration. Visitors should bring identification and adhere to strict security regulations during their stay.
The grounds originally comprised a Soviet military complex with deep history as a missile base before being transformed into a correctional facility. This unusual conversion from military installation to prison layered an intriguing historical dimension onto the site that contrasts with its contemporary function.
